Hi,
I saw quite a few posts about batteries suddenly discharging. About two weeks ago I got home from work and my Axim 5 was dead. I assumed I had forgotten to charge it. I charged it and reloaded my programs and synched it. Next day , same thing. I assumed it was my battery, so I borrowed an almost new battery from my husband and boom, same thing. I called Dell and was told to upgrade my ROM. Did that, no help. I called Dell again and they told me since it was out of warrtanty they could do nothing except sell me a refurb for $199- I keep my battery etc. What a deal! They said it was not repairable since it was an integrated unit and the problem was somewhere on the motherboard.

In the meantime i did some research & found PDAParts.com selling an Axim5 64 mb 400 mhz motherboard for $79.95. Three days later it was sitting on my kitchen table. I took everything apart, put it back together with the new motherboard and VOILA!!! My Axim has kept its power now for 24 hours. I had to upgrade my MS activesync (free on MS site) as the new card has a newer version of Windows Pocket PC.

If anyone else is having the same probvlem hope this helps.
