I think some of the reviewer discontent stems from the fact that the HP 1910 and the Viewsonic V35 came out at nearly the same time as the Axim.
Clearly, the Axim is larger than these two little things. However, I think that for the shortcomings those devices have (single slots, battery life, and on the V35, not truly having 64 MB RAM available), the size of the Axim is a small price to pay.
Remember, the form factor of the Palm V and Vx was revolutionary when it came out. Sitting side by side, my Axim fairly dwarfs the Vx, being twice as thick, about a half inch taller, and a quarter inch wider. In the world of handhelds and cell phones, the mantra has traditionally been "smaller is better," and the Axim was definitely bucking that trend.
However....I wouldn't trade it for a 1910 unless my life depended on it.
