The battery is rated at 3.00 v. If it drops to 2.99 v, the gauge will drop to 80-90%. You can get a .01v drop from just a temperature change.
If it bugs you, a replacement battery is $3, and they start out just above 3.00 v so a small temperature drop in voltage won't trigger the circuit.
The battery being a bit loose is a more dangerous problem. If the backup comes away from the little contacts and the main battery is removed or dies, as Emeril says "Bam!" you lose everything. The little wedge to make the battery fit snugly in the little well is a good thing.
