You cannot uninstall the ROM version of course. I never saw this advice on Microsoft's, but having seen a number of people in various forums mention it, it would seem I overlooked it. Absurd. Installing the newer versions of Reader to an SD card or a file store is simply done using the CAB file and S_K's CabInstl program, or I suppose one could just let Activesync install it to a non-default location. The CAB file for Reader is about 2.5MB, which is a heck of a lot of memory to waste on a second-rate ebook program. µbook is a lot smaller, more versatile, and just more fun to use, and I have both that and Reader installed to a folder on my main SD card. You have to use a separate shortcut from the one in the \Windows folder...
The first time I installed the update to a device I didn't realise I could install to a card, and then I saw with horror just how many files got dumped into \Windows. I set about moving these manually to a card, and doing the matching registry edits to allow the newer reader to work. That was a lot of wasted time, as uninstalling and reinstalling with CabInstl to a specific location works fine.
