I use MusicMatch to convert to 96 mp3s (so I can get more on my CF card.) The sound quality at 96 is fine for me, but I did find 64 wasn't quite good enough for my taste.

I also use a card reader for transfer to the card from the PC.

On the Axim I use GSPlayer which is free and (IMO) handles adding files to playlists better than WMP. It also has a basic equalizer that allows you to adjust the music to your tastes.

PocketMusic is another free one (for the mp3 version...there is an upgrade that you pay for which has additional features and can play wma files.) I find that I get "crackling" like I was playing a vinyl record when I use this one. Sure, it's nostalgic, but that's not what I'm looking for! I have friends who use this one though without any problem, so it may just be something with my system working with PocketMusic.
