You can adjust the size of the Mapopolis directions box to be either large (like you have) or small (about half that size) or not there at all.
The voice in Mapopolis works better in PDAs with reasonable bass response in the speakers. Dell's speaker has almost no bass response. With a Seidio powered mount, the voice is very understandable through it's speaker. You can also program the buttons in Mapopolis to whatever you want. I have mine programed for Zoom In, Zoom Out, Day/Night and Nave Pane Big/Small. With just button pushes I can make all the changes you mentioned.
I've reviewed Routis and used Mapopolis and it's a very close call between them. Both have advantages and disadvantages that keeps me on the fence.
