Need for speed closing in

Pocket PC owners slash car racing lovers are still being kept in suspense as to the release of Need for speed - but that doesn't mean it's impossible to get a sneak peek of the game.

As so many other games that are now being adapted for handheld platforms, Need for speed from ZIOSoft is eagerly anticipated by scores of handheld owners that remember what it was like to play the game on what was once considered a powerful desktop computer - approximately as powerful as a standard Pocket PC 2002 device nowadays. Unfortunately, ZIOSoft has not announced an official launch date as of yet, but new screenshots provide a first look at what the game will offer when it finally arrives.

In Need for Speed: High Stakes, for the Pocket PC, the player's goal is to win prize money, in order to to customize ones car to the ultimate dream machine and gain access to exclusive super cars as the gameplay evolves.

Cars range from the speed demon, Porsche 911, to the Ferrari F50, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Jaguar XKR, Chevrolet Corvette, Pontiac Firebird , Lamborghini Diablo SV, McLaren F1 GTR, BMW Z3 and M5, Porsche 911, Mercedes SLK 230 and CLK-GTR. In order to win the entire game, 60 different racing events must be won to become the "Champion Road Racer", all whilst the driver must be as careful as possible so as to not ding, dent or scratch his or her car having to spend valuable money on repairing it instead of upgrading it.

As an added bonus, players can also add to personal cars and tracks by downloading additional ones from the ZIOSoft website. Speaking of the website, that's where one of the most unnerving messages for those who eagerly anticipate the game to arrive is placed; Coming Soon.

I went to the company's website, but it is still under construction.
