I appreciate all of the candid remarks about problems with the Sandisk 256 (and other) SD cards. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent loading and reloading my medical programs and other large books, only to find that they either did not load correctly or did load, but two or three tries later are completely unaccessible. I am a medical resident and need frequent quick access to my medical books. Sandisk has taught me that I cannot trust their memory cards.

Buy.com, however, has a wonderful return policy. I am returning the corrupt, worthless card, and purchasing a Viking 256 mb SD card. From what I've read, they seem to work well.
