I have the same card and I got it to work with no problem. I did have a problem with a bogus DLink card but that was another story.
Anyway, I would say to definately give it an ip address (at school I guess ask the network admins what the range for the ip addressess is) and at home just give it one within your range. I do that with mine at home and the one here at work. Works like a charm.
