hey steve, how is your desktop/laptop connected to your cable modem? did you use a usb connection or the ethernet connection? ethernet=nic looks like an oversized telephone port. its a better connection regarding the cable modem. if you did the self install kit that charter gave you then you most likely did a usb connection. nic cards are not hard to install if thats what you want but i believe your configuation will have to be re-done. (not sure about it so please don't quote me) in my area of michigan charter does offer a dial up service but it might not be the case where you live....although highly unlikely. let me know how you make out
