Just couple from my experience. Awhile back I had big problems with HP USB printers. I eventually found an article on the HP site that pointed to a USB driver iissue. Something like, if the loaded driver ended with AD/AH or something like that I had to force windows to use the AA/AB driver. To find it you have to uncheck "show compatible devices"
Also, without rhym or reason, I have always had better luck with the USB ports at the rear.
Did you encounter the high speed device in a low speed port error and if you are using a hub is it powered.
