Unfortunately, yes, it is normal. I've never figured out what the Microsoft programmers could possibly have done to make this operation so slow.

FWIW, the Dell backup (to SD or compact flash) is much faster, so you might want to look into picking up a couple of cheap CF cards to use for rotating backups rather than using the ActiveSync backup.
