Your idea of com port being used by another program solved my issue.
Indeed, my TomTom 3 GPS is using the com 1 and when I disabled the port in the GPS menu I was able to synchronize.
Now I need to find an other port to use the GPS to avoid to activate/desactivate it everytime I want to sync.
