I had the same problem. I called Dell Tech Support. The problem was solved by:
1. Deinstalling all ani-virus and firewall software (Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm)
2. Reinstalling Active Sync
3. Reinstalling anti-virus software and firewall software.
