Respecting the mod's attempt to kill this topic, I do have a related follow-on question that is more technical.
I haven't had the time to try to rip any DVDs at this point so I am not familiar with the software. That being said, I have always been under the impression that unlike CDs, DVDs are actually copy protected (Macrovision???). If this is true, then does the DVD ripping software include some workaround to the security on the disc?
If the answer to the above is yes, then it does pose an interesting conflict between the long-established concept of "fair-use," making copies for personal use, and the Digital Millenium Copyright Act which outlaws the breaking of copy-protection schemes. The DMCA goes so far as to outlaw even the academic discussion of breaking copy-protection...
