Lucy - Open your Calendar by tapping on the appointment on your Today screen. Then Tap-and-Hold on the appointment in the Calendar display. This will pop-up a menu allowing you to delete the item from your Calendar. When you return to your Today screen you will notice that the appointment is no longer there.
