Actually there is a limit to the number of writes on ROM, about 10,000. RAM has millions of writes, but ROM isn't really intended for day-to-day operations. 10,000 sounds like a lot until you do the math:
Assume 2 year life of the Ax
365 days per year (your mileage may vary ;) )
10,000/(2*365) = 14 writes/day
14 writes a day is not really a lot, if you put volatile files there (logs, programs with configuration files, etc.)
So, I only put static kinds of stuff there--backups, restore software, registrations for software for when I have to restore, etc.
