Free PowerPoint Player Program review for the Axim

Ok, I promised I’d post a quick review of the WebEx free PowerPoint player complete with screenies in this thread http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...threadid=44484, so here we go. ;)

First, visit this link here, and click the DOWNLOAD button at the bottom of the page: http://try.webex.com/mk/get/presente...rackID=1001054

First, it’ll take you to this page below, where you are required to fill in some personal info (which I’m always skeptical about, so I put in my “junk” email address) By the way, to “register” the program they require a valid email addy, so if you have a junk filter on your “junk” email account, briefly turn it off to get the email from WebEx.

Next, after you’ve installed the program on your Axim, locate the PowerPoint presentation on your PC that you want to put on your Axim, highlight it, and click COPY (or hit CTRL + C) I’ve removed my file names for security reasons, except the sample presentation OB_SWA below:

Now (assuming your Axim is still docked) open you’re MOBILE DEVICE folder and PASTE the copied-presentation by right-clicking and selecting PASTE (or CTRL + V)

A “conversion” utility will automatically open and begin converting your PowerPoint presentation to the WebEx viewer format on your PC. It’ll ask you what format you with to convert the presentation in to, and I recommend selecting the lowest (for viewing’s sake and performance). I didn’t get a screenie of that, because it only happens once and I took these pictures after-the-fact. Here’s what the file will look like once the conversion is complete:

All done! Now, all we need to do is open the WebEx viewer from our Programs menu, and select the presentation to view:

Now for the presentation. (this is an old presentation I made using Southwest Airline’s business model to make a point for a college project.. ahh the days)

I can’t really make much out of this, so let’s rotate the screen within the program using the toolbar buttons on the bottom:

I’ve only been playing with this for a few minutes, but it works great. Tapping the screen brings up the toolbar, and you can write on the screen if you like and erase it when your done.

The conversion retained all of the text and size, but the entry effects are gone. That’s ok, too much flash and it can be difficult to manipulate the spreadsheet if you are giving a small presentation on your PDA..

Large, detailed pictures convert beautifully..

I had plenty of high-res background pictures in this presentation, and they come through decently too.

Here’s a background picture of Southwest employees showing up for work in boxer shorts.. You have to know the company. :D

That’s it! I give this a 9 out of 10 for a free PowerPoint player!
