I had the same problems. I uninstalled Active Sync, did a hard reset on the Axim, when it came on I renamed the device (I heard anything but the default name would give better results) reinstalled Active sync and got the same exact error message... BUT I re-cradled the device, clicked on the items it wouldn't install the first time and told it to sync and it did. It may be that simple for you... hope it is. Let us know where you are with this...
