1 hour and 50 minutes into a 130mb movie 320x144 (widescreen).

What started as a simple attempt to encode 2 movies for my wife to watch on a trip has become a huge undertaking.

After lots of hit and miss I have a 130mb file of a 1 hour and 50 minute movie with full stereo. The problem I have is how quiet the sound is even when set on the highest setting on the Axim. Now my speaker is almost unhearable. Unless the room is completely silent you can’t even tell the Axim is making noise. However, with a set of headphones it sounds okay, but still WAY too quiet.

I will eventually post how I made this file, it uses completely free programs and doesn’t require a whole lot of intelligence (which suited me just perfect).

I have to thank Fibrizo for his guide Guide: DVD to avi the easy way (with deinterlacing) stickied above. Shame he hasn’t been around in almost a year to the day. I had to change some things in his guide (like getting Divx 5.2 or something like that).

I also used his other guide for using virtualdub (Quick Guide to Reencoding Video for Axim with Divx 5.0.X ). This resulted in turning my 1.6gb file from the last guide into a 130mb file.

What I want to do from here is find a way to make it 115mb or so to fit on a 128mb card. I also want to improve the audio, because frankly my wife won’t be able to hear it over the plane noises even at full blast.
