I noticed the same thing. Then i downloaded the trial of SPB Pocket Plus and put the Volume up and down icons on the today screen. I turned up volume in WMP as loud as possible and then minized it. Clicked the volume up icon 2 times and got my ears blown up. I ended buying PSB Pocket Plus right after that.
