They look dithered because they are 8bit clut colour, so if you are using jpeg for source, you will have to rely on microsofts 24bpp to 8bit clut, which probably isnt such a good idea
(the axim has a 16bit direct colour screen)

and the screen reolution is 240x320, which sounds low, but for the screen size, its actually pretty good (not the best, but pretty good)
