You are right about checking the settings to make sure about enabling active sync...however, for those that were not familiar with that, they were having problems with active sync "coming back to life" after their Axims were shut down. Next thing they knew their battery life was down a bit...
Safest bet is to check the settings and shut down active sync...just my opinion.
