use it to convert to a number of formats, I would try ogg and play with gsplayer and see if it is acceptable.
Like mentioned, the audio quality drop significantly when you re-encode... experiment a little. try various bit rates to reach the best size/quality for your specific ears.
many ppl's ear can't really tell the difference. and most ppl use pretty awful earphones so you really have to just try it and see if its acceptable.
