personally, I wouldn't compromise the audio quality
then I use 160k ogg when encoding from CD
the audio quality's difference is hardly to be heard
when you use it at home, you can use on demand (which gives you full control to play what you want)
if you can use hotspot, setup an FTP server, then copy the files from your home (this is also possible with EDGE/CDMA1x or higher mobile connection)
