But not for me. I could not use
MCastles solution because my Keys folder did not contain a 40C5 Key.
It is indeed a Button problem and my solution is as follows :-
Firstly I found that my Registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft contained
two Windows Media Player folders - one ending in 8 and the other in 8.1 . They appeared to be virtually identical and, moreover, the Registry after a Hard Reset contained only the 8 version. So I deleted the 8.1 folder.
Secondly I compared the 8 folder with the Hard Reset version and again thay were pretty much the same with one exception. The Button Map sub-folder after the Hard Reset was empty except for "(Default) = (value not set)" but in the Registry obtained by restoring a backup the Button Map folder contained :-
3 = 0x 9(9)
7 = 0x 7(7)
8 = 0x 8(8)
I therfore deleted these three entries and WMP then loaded and ran perfectly :approve:
The moral of this story is "don't map the buttons"
