As for the problem with Windows media player, same thing happened to me. After much searching, attempted uninstalls, and reinstalls of other versions of media player, the only thing that worked was a hard reset.
Fortunately, it's easy to copy your "my documents" folder before you reset so you can place it right back afterwards.
I've seen this same topic on other disc. boards, and the only solution I've seen has been the hard reset.
