These are all right questions...I am not sure I know the answers...should ask the administrator agan. Since the Axim connects to an outside ISP properly, obviously the problem is in the communication with the PC.

I do not think there is PCAnywhere on either the PC or my laptop. The PC settings simply recognize the laptop by user name/password and I entered the same on the Axim when prompted (there is one more line there, "domain", that I leave empty.

I made the Data bits, Parity, Stop bits, Flow Control, Terminals, identical on both the Axim and PC. TCP/IP is server-assigned, as are the server addresses. Software compression is marked. That's about all I can see.

The Hawking service people believe the problem is not with their modem, especially that it dials and connects to AOL...
