Thanks, csims, for your continuous interest.

I have Windows 2000 Professional workstation. I was also told that there is no special software on either the PC or the laptop (it runs same w2k Professional). The identification of the laptop is by user name/password, and the only (automatic) step that follows the initial connection is "Registering the laptop on the network". After that the laptop can browse the internet, the network, etc.

I can add one more detail, although it is probably irrelevant: I can specify that the PC calls back the laptop before the connection is made. This feature appears not to work with the Axim altogether, so I simply disabled it during all trials.

So now, after dialing from Axim, I can hear the PC modem being activated, then in about 5-10 sec the "Connected" sign pops-up on Axim (but not on the PC, as is during normal connection with the laptop), and the connection ends within few more seconds. Is it possible that w2k and the Axim opsystem are incompetible for this purpose?
