Looking to buy PDA, does Axim meet my needs

I am looking into buying a Axim 400Mhz.

Primary use will be taking notes and recording audio during lectures of up to several hours.

I called Dell. After holding for over 3 hours they informed me they don't know the answers to my answers so here I am, hope you can help...

Can Axim record several hours at a time without holding the record button?

How's battery life while recording using 1 GB CF cards?

Can recording be directed to a CF card so that I CAN record several hours at a time?

Does unit have an external "Mic" jack?

I listen to MP3's while traveling. what can I expect for battery life?

Is there a decent MP3 player out there?

Can batteries be changed on the fly or does machine have to be powered down first? Any other thoughts on why this may or may not be a good unit for me?

Do you know of anyone rebuilding HP 720's at a VERY "reasonable" $ rate? (Screen scratched, earphone works on 1 channel, etc)

Thanks for your help,
