You might also want to check your ActiveSync settings on the Axim- make sure the unit does not try to sync when not connected (activesync>tools>schedule...disable the 'when not connected' option). This seems to have been then cause for many by reading prior posts.
If all else fails....I did have the same problem with my original Axim, I had double-checked and triple-checked all the setting suggestions listed by ikehiker & others, yet it persisted. I went through hard resets and the like, but nothing seemed to help. Finally, I go tin touch with Dell, they seemed to think it was a hardware related problem, as this problem was not unheard of by Dell. They replaced my unit, and voila, never had the problem again!
Ikehiker:
For me, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, an 'OFF' with the Axim would be to ensure that no programs are left running. Remember that closing a program window does not unload the program from memory...it is 'minimized' in sorts. You can use the switcher bar applet (found in settings>system), and exit the programs this way- this clears them from memory. There are also several other apps available that will give the 'X' in the program window more of a true 'close' function. Other than this, turning it off as in no power would be the equivalent of a hard reset.
