My first shock was that I got a guy on the phone that spoke English. The next shock was that it is the complete upgrade and that it has been updated from the previous one that was available months ago. He verified to me that this version is the same one used on the X30 and X50 Axim models, and that they have worked out all of the "bugs". I guess we'll see because I ordered, and it is to be shipped out on 11/29/2004.
Another note: I also asked the Dell rep. about any new SD or Compact Flash cameras they might have available for the X5. He said that they only one Dell has to offer is the VEO Photo Traveler 130S SD and that it would work with the X5. Well I wanted more Megapixels than this camera has to offer. So he told me that I should check with Palm Pilot. That Palm's cameras are tested to work with the X5. So if you are looking for a camera you might want to look in that direction. I will be.
Thanks for the informative post.

Oh no, here we go again. It's the iPAQ 1910 forum SD slot wars all over again. Look, it has been confirmed, officially from Dell and by many, many X5 users, that the SD slot on a Dell Axim X5 is not I/O capable, which is to say not input/output, in hardware. It is a memory-only expansion slot, usable with SD or MMC memory cards, nothing else.
If this has somehow been revised, let's see some documentation from Dell, please. Above we have 1) a borderline racist slur regarding Dell support languages, 2) a lot of hearsay with no supporting documentation, and 3) a direct conflict with Dell's official position of re-release of the WM2003 upgrade for the Axim X5 which was published by Dell, in the Dell forums, within the past month.
So please, if you have corroboration, share it. If you have hearsay, rumours, whatever, by all means share. Just don't pretend that such things are facts. Of course, if anyone can prove this about the SD slot I'll happily eat crow. :)
