I've been using my iPaq 2215 for several months without a screen protector and only occasional cleaning. If I hold the 2215 very carefully at just the right angle and in just the right light, I can notice a couple of minor scratches. There's nothing I notice in the way of flaws under normal use. I'm not convinced that screen protectors are necessary with normal stylus pressure. However, heavy gaming with the stylus may be a different story.
