I just obtained a return authorization for my X50 over this issue. Technical Support was unable to offer any assitance other than to suggest a hard reset.
Maybe I'll try Dell again in a few months, but for now it's back to HP.
I may also take a close look at Sprint's new PPC6600, and see whether HTC got it right with that one.
