I have a 2GB Hitachi and it works just fine (from Fry's Outpost, it was cheap enough...)
The "drawbacks" I've found so far:
- When walking quickly, my music would skip every now and then - it was fixed by increasing the buffer, though.
- It takes a toll on the battery, but I can get a good 2 hours with the regular battery (give or take some) playing mp3s continuously (dimmed screen).
- "Slow" data transfer. I've never owned an SD or CF card before (this is my first one) so I have no way to compare it to something else. Even though it's "maximum" transfer rate is 48X (both the 2GB and 4GB models have the same speed), it feels a bit... slow. I used a card-reader (built into my computer) to transfer 2 .avi's (350MB total) and it took about between 5 and 6 minutes to transfer. I haven't tried through the craddle, though I've read that it's slower. So yeah, it's a bit slow.
I was actually contemplating getting the 4GB model (because of the sheer size), But I'm not so sure about it because moving big files (like movies) will be a hassle.
I might just go with a 2GB solid state CF card for speed and durability... I'll have to think about it in the morning when I'm more lucid *yawn*
