I worked for a while selling consumer electronics and I always told customers that wanted to hook their DVD player into a VCR that it wasn't possible due to copy protection. Yet I hooked a Sanyo DVD player into the s-video input of my tuner card and was able to record a commercial DVD (the movie Kate & Leopold) in mpeg2. The quality was outstanding with no copy-protection breakup.

Does anyone know why this (the supposedly impossible) was possible?
