I too remember the speed test on www.pocketpcthought.com but I can't actually find it.

You can look at the Sandisk website for the data speed of their cards (SD and CF). You can also do the same for Lexar. I suspect you will find that most cards start at a data rate of 1.5Mb/s and go up to more than 12Mb/s for the really expensive ones.
