First Post, same problem. Here is the string of emails I exchanged with Dell support....might help someone. I have <snipped> the useless parts and 'anonymized' it somewhat...

Dear XXXXX:

Since the previous email agent is not available today, I am replying to
your message so that we can solve your problem as quickly as possible.

As I understand from your e-mail, you have performed the
troubleshooting
steps but the issue still persists.

Please accept my apology for the difficulties you have encountered with
the technical issues. I assure you that this situation is not

of the quality service Dell is capable of providing.

Richard, after going through the problem description, I have come to a
conclusion that you have a failing Axim. Since this is a new unit, I
will replace it for you.

Please provide the information requested below so I can setup your

3. Current Shipping Address: (Address, City, State, and Zip) No PO
Boxes
please:
4. Daytime Phone Number:
5. Alternate Contact/ Phone:
6. Order Number:
7. Customer Number:
8. Service Tag Number:
9. Address you would like the system returned to, if different from the
shipping address above.

Nancy,

Thanks for the assistance. Here were the results:

1. Reseated the fillers (both the SD and the CF pieces). Problem still
occurs.

2. Soft reset seems to fix the problem temporarily. If the system is
put in standby, and then reactivated, the problem reoccurs. Not sure
if
I mentioned this in the original email, but the problem seems to be
somehow tied to enabling the wireless device. If I leave the wireless
device (both bluetooth and wifi seem to be linked together?) disabled,
the error does not occur. After reenabling the wireless device (via
the
button on the side of the device), the error appears.

3. Hard reset did not have result different than from the soft reset -
temporary fix, but problem reoccurs.

Dear XXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Dell Technical Support.

After reading your email, I understand that a message pops up on a
regular basis "Unrecognized Card - Enter the name of the device driver
for this card. For information, see the card manufacturer's
documentation. Network card in Socket 2 OK Cancel".

XXXXX, I would request you to perform these steps and check if this
resolves the issue or not.

1. Reseat the filler.
- Remove the filler from the top of the Axim.
- Insert the filler piece into the slot.

2. Perform a soft reset on the Dell Axim X50 handheld.
NOTICE: The soft reset will reboot the Axim X50. Any file that is open
at that time may be lost, but all saved data and programs will remain.
- Turn on the Axim, if it is not already on, by pressing the power
button.
- Push the reset button on the back side of the Axim with the stylus.
NOTE: Unscrew the black tip of the stylus and use that to push the soft
reset button.

3. Hard reset the Dell Axim X50.
NOTICE: Performing a hard reset of the Axim system will erase all data
on the system. Please ensure that all necessary backups have been
created prior to proceeding.
- Turn on the Axim, if it is not already on, by pressing the power
button.
- Hold the power button down and press the reset button at the same
time.
NOTE: Unscrew the black tip of the stylus and use that to push the soft
reset button
- Press the Contacts button to reset the system.
- Press the Mail button to cancel without losing data.

Please check if the issue is resolved. If not, please revert to us with
the detailed description of all the steps performed and the results of
the same. In case you need any other assistance or information, please
do inform us. We will be glad to assist you in resolving the issue.

Thank you for choosing Dell.
Respectfully,

Nancy

This message pops up on a regular basis on 'waking' the device.

I have clicked "OK" only to have the message return. I have also tried
cancel with the same result.

I have no cards in either the CF or SD socket, just the plastic filler
pieces.
