Are we talking FairUse LE? In that case, I didn't choose any resolution. I'm not messing around in the "OPTIONS" area at all, which is why I love this so much.
I simply reduce the size of the movie to 250MB, set the audio at 80, and then click the "automatic" function (can't check on that at the moment, as I'm ripping my 14th movie in two days.
My PC is fast enough that I can set FairUse to work and then go do something else. BOY am I happy that I upgraded...I was using a 1.4 GHz Celeron before. (Now it's a fire breathing Dell 8400 3.2 GHz machine with 1 GB of 533 memory)

Do most of you usually just rip using shrink first to make your movies fit onto a DVD-R and then use Fair Use to encode from your burned disc? I would think re-encoding the video twice would reduce the quality some.

I only rip them once, into a 250 MB file. I don't need to burn actual copies of my DVD for any reason (I still don't see my PC as a replacement for my home stereo system), but I am making movie files for my PPC so that I can watch movies as I travel.
