I've had this problem on occasion and found it sometimes helpful to reinstall ActiveSync. If you want to keep the same device name, you will need to delete your cuerent partnership first. With your X5 off the cradle, click on File, Delete Partnership in ActiveSync on your laptop. The next time you sync, a partnership using your current device name will be automatically created.
