I had the same problem. This is how I solved it.

1) Backed up everything up to a SD card.
2) remove the card.
3) Do the update as instructed.
4) Sync before restoring. You have to select your partnership again. Sync ONLY outlook data.
5) restore your backup
6) sync again - you can select anything you want.

Everything should work
