I tried dailing a number from my computer and it actually gets to the point of dialing... but then quickly disconnects and says the modem isn't responding. However, I can't even get to this point on my Axim.

I think the problem is with the phone itself and how bluetooth is implemented. If you find a Sony Ericson you won't have that problem
. I had a SE 616, and V600, and now a V551. T616 had the best bluetooth implementation. V600 has only two profiles. Dialup internet and file transfer. I had a really hard time finding a program that will read and send SMS from my Axim via bluetooth.
So to keep it short.... you might be out of luck.
