SD cards have memory controllers with processing capability that run at different speeds.

depends on card speed. my writes at 5MB/sec, roughly, so 3 mins 15 seconds. longer for multiple files.

how fast exactly does the 64X card write in the PC, in terms of MB/sec? (real-world experience)
theoretically it should write at 9.375MB/sec ("X" = 150KB/sec), which is basically the same advertised speed as a Sandisk Extreme II SD card. (9MB/sec minimum write speed.)
