Do you have an x50v? I've found that it won't load qvga skins no matter where they are, and i haven't found any vga skins anywhere yet. If you look at the \windows\portrait192.skn you'll see:

    Orientation Portrait
So it seems to read that before loading it.

I had some luck by taking a qvga skin, resizing the images, then doubling all of the coordinates in the skin file, but it was tedious and I gave up.
