I had this problem with my 50V. Turns out, the cradle is USB 1.1 so its slower than using a card reader/writer. Second was that I was synching on battery with the processor set to autospeed (or whatever that option is called) so it wasn't operating a full speed. Lastly (if I recall), I had synch set to file conversion, which when combined with the slower processor speed really slowed it down.

When I can't go direct with card reader/writer, I now do all synching with the power cord plugged into the cradle to keep processing speed up, and turned conversion off. Nothing I can do about the cradle being USB 1.1 tho.
