I disagree that AAC files are a waste of time or that none of the free players play them. I like the iTunes interface and store my CD collection on my PC in this format. I discovered BetaPlayer which lets me play AAC/MP4 etc on my Axim and purchased ppcTunes from Handango for $9.95 (about £6.50ish) which lets me sync an iTunes playlist on connection.
Syncronisation via the Dell USB cradle to my SD card was very slow but I purchased a USB Sync/Charge cable for £6.50 (pdamods.com) and that solved the speed issue.
BetaPlayer doesn't have the nicest interface (Media Player 10 with iPod skin looks nicer), but it is free and plays all the popular formats.
