I found the problem - but only AFTER a hard reset

- Now I gotta reinstall and reconfigure everything...

Anyway - the problem was the background image I was using. I had created my own in Paint Shop Pro - 480x640 .jpg and transferred it to the SD card. Then I used the picture viewer that came with the Axim to set it as the background. I thought that was supposed to work.....
