12 hours is a long time. But yes, it is probably due to the slow speed of your laptop.

I can do the whole process on my laptop for a movie encoded to 230MB in three hours. Though mine is a 2.2Ghz. It most likely also has a faster FSB and HD.

Are you doing anything while FairUse is working? It is best to just let it be to make sure it is done faster and you will be less likely to have any skipping or audio issues.

I will let mine get through the ripping process, then set it up for the encoding when I am going to bed.
