> It seems like PocketTV Team likes to point out the fallacies in Betaplayer without doing much research.

We never used the word "fallacies".

We thing Betaplayer is a great piece of software, and this is the result of the work of many people (see their copyright statement).

All we said is that PocketTV and Betaplayer have different features, and some people like to have the choice.

> 1. Betaplayer CAN stream videos off of the net, and also audio files like shoutcast and WMP streams.

Can Betaplayer stream from http servers ?

> 2. By default, the player uses right-handed landscape orientation for its full-screen view, which is what the majority of people want. There's no need to change it unless you want to, and it's very easy to do so.

PocketTV adjusts the fullscreen orientation automatically in both landscape orientation. I don't think Betaplayer can do that automatically.

3. He states that Betaplayer has a plethora of options that make little sense or are useless.

It is true that a number of the Betaplayer options are of little use for the end user. Do you often use "Null Audio" versus "Disabled audio" ?

> Last time I checked, an equalizer wasn't useless,

Although the way it works (by scaling the MPEG audio sub-bands) results in a very distorted sound, so practically it does not work too well, have you ever tried it ? That's why we never implemented it (it would be easy to implement, really). Some devices, like the iPaq 3900, have a DSP-based equalizer that works much better.

> neither was color and saturation settings, hotkeys

color and saturation settings and hotkeys are very useful, and we also have that in PocketTV. And when you adjust color and saturation with PocketTV, you see the effect on the video in real time. Not the case with Betaplayer.

> and the player settings themselves. Betaplayer automatically detects which driver would give the best speed during playback and all you have to do after you install it is pick the file you want to play and it works fine. The settings are there only if you want to tweak something.

PocketTV also detects which driver would give the best speed during playback. We also provide options to tweak settings when this makes sense for the end-user.

> With that said, how many people actually use MPG anymore?

Apparently yes, MPEG is still a popular format. Maybe that's because it is "legal", i.e. there are no patent royalties attached to the use of the mpeg1 format. divx uses technology that is subject to patent royalties (mpeg-4 video, mp3 audio).

> AVI is definitely by far way more popular,

AVI ? You mean DivX. AVI is just a container format.

Yes, of course, DivX (which is based on MPEG-4) is more popular among the file-sharing and DVD-ripping community.
