I should have mentioned that the helpful stuff I found was on your site.. thanks for that!

Unfortunately for me there is a problem with my hauppauge card which means that the encoder can see the card but refuses to find any video signal, so its no use thus far.. it is likely a wdm codec issue so may be able to resolve it in the end..

My workaround so far is great tho.. the streaming of the file as it is being recorded is amazing.. never knew it could do that before.. only works with wmv files but the quality is as good as that displayed on the live display on the main pc which showshifter is recording.. its quite handy too in that using showshifter, which is linked to my digiguide, I can set it to record any program and thus be able to watch that as it records on the media player on the laptop.. and later my axim.. if I dont want to keep the recording can just delete at the end of watching..

One shame about wmv is that microsoft dont want you messing with your own recorded files and so it cant later be converted to divx on virtualdub (altho googling can find some software to enable that in fact) Usually I record directly into divx and then edit adds etc out later on virtualdub..

Anyway, I will try and get the hauppauge card to work on the encoder which of course is the more direct approach.. its all good fun anyway.. :)
